About us

History

The starting point of using plants to treat diseases is lost in the mists of time. The earliest records of medicinal herbs belong to the Sumerians, who lived about 6000 years ago in what is now Iraq.
In the Middle Ages the most important work was "Canon of Medicine" of the biggest Persian scientist Ibn Sina (Avicenna). In such a significant book about herbal medicine the doctor gave great support of the use of more than 800 plants. This treatise summarizes the experience of many centuries since the time of ancient healers: Galen, Dioscorides, and Theophrastus. Armenia in this industry, too, has a rich history. Even in IBC in this fertile soil there was a garden for growing medicinal plants. Before our time there has been reached a large number of stories that point to widespread use in the ancient Armenian flora for medicinal purposes. From there, herbs were exported to many countries of East and West. There are a number of medieval medical manuscripts in Matenadaran - a collection of ancient manuscripts. Among them, mention must be made of the outstanding work of the scientist and doctor of the XV century Amirdovlat Amasiatsi: "Useless for the Ignorant." In fact, that is a medieval encyclopedia of medicines.
Considerable interest must be as well shown to the work of the founder of medieval Armenian medicine, medical representative of the Cilician school of Mkhitar Heratsi or Great Mkhitar. In 80-ies of XII century. Mkhitar Heratsi has begun to establish the main work of his life, the book "Consolation for Fevers." It describes the drug treatment system, which occupies a leading place in phytotherapy.
